Spirit of the Rally
William and Ben Medcalf took to this year’s Rally the Globe Generations Rally.
The Spirit of the Rally Award, presented by Kingfisher Private Client, was awarded to Ben Medcalf, at just 13 years old the youngest navigator on the rally. An incredibly special and proud moment!
Huge congratulations to Ben, so many crews and teams said they could see just how much he was loving it.
For almost 360 miles through South Wales and the Cotswold this event in the sun featured 13 Passage Controls, 12 Speed Tests and eight Regularities for the 83 crews, young and old, to get stuck into.
After a misty start, a bright and sunny second day took crews deep into the stunning Welsh countryside, with seven Tests and four Regularities spread across a 176-mile route, either side of a well-earned lunch stop at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Showground in Builth Wells.
Following the rigours of Saturday, Sunday’s schedule was more relaxed, allowing crews to enjoy a slightly shorter day ahead of the prize-giving lunch and early afternoon departures.
The spotlight shifted east towards the Cotswolds for three further Tests and three Regularities, all blessed with excellent weather!
Next year’s Generations Rally will return to the rugged scenery and outstanding driving roads of Northeast England over the 19th – 21st March weekend. With another full-capacity entry expected, registrations are now open and we have already signed up!

William and Ben competed in the 1924 3/4 ½ Litre Bentley which has now returned to the showroom after an unforgettable run at the Rally the Globe Generations Rally. Fully rebuilt and a true celebration of Bentley heritage, it proved that vintage spirit is very much alive on today’s roads.
